hello. Dubai.

February 22, 2012

Tour resumes and today we are in Dubai, UAE to take part in the Dubai International Jazz Festival. From my perch, the city appears lovely, dusty and warm; a climate similar to the smoky basements and speakeasies where Jazz was born. While I’m happy to be here, I’ll likely spend most of my time indoors, ironically working on a short film about melting ice in Antarctica.

Through the smog I can see the construction boom. And through the cranes I can smell the cargo ships. And through it all I can clearly feel the how and the why as the wind blows again and the climate shifts.

Nevertheless, our world at present remains home to our beautiful minds as well as our outrageous and exciting technologies. Here’s an example in film by Aaron Mendez titled, 3 Days in Dubai. Enjoy.

My friends and I were stoked to see you performed @ the jazz fest. Though we miss Toca, Mona did a great job though. But Jason you seemed sad and you rarely smiled, you looked so serious that we thought something is off. We just miss the bubbly Mraz during concerts, throwing jokes with Toca and the crowd. Nevertheless, the performance you gave was more than what we paid for so we are truly grateful for that. ILY!

From antarctic freeze to dusty warmth, must be a trip. A fun fantastical trip! Nice video. Better get some extra vitamin C though. Extreme temp fluctuation does crazy things to the immune system.

Enjoyed the video. And I do love your statement: “our world at present remains home to our beautiful minds as well as our outrageous and exciting technologies”. I think I’ll try to learn it by heart :) Thank you.

what a contrast: arabia / antarctica – like fire and ice. great!

would have liked to watch the vid, but my internet connection groaned and my pc finally surrendered. i only got some pictures of it. not enough to make a film, for that we need at least 16 frames, right? mkay, imagination is everything :-)

have a good time in dubai!
